HAWTHORNE'S PIZZA AND TRIVIA in SOUTHEND

ree

Let's get one thing straight, folks. I've had my fair share of pizza adventures in this fine city, and many have left me feeling... well, let's just say, less than inspired. But then, there's Hawthorne's in Southend. And oh boy, is it a game-changer.

Stepping into Hawthorne's feels like you're walking into that cool, laid-back pizza joint from a 90s movie, but with way better beer on tap. It's got that comfortable, no-frills vibe that says, "We're here to make awesome pizza, not to impress you with fancy tablecloths." And impress they do!

Now, for the main event: the pizza. We went for the "Hawthorne's Special" because, when in Rome (or in this case, Southend), you go for the special, right? The moment that beauty hit our table, a chorus of angels probably sang, or at least my stomach did. The crust is the star of the show. It's got that perfect char that gives it a slight crisp, but it's still wonderfully chewy inside. It's the kind of crust you actually want to eat, not just leave in a sad pile on your plate.

The toppings? They're generous, fresh, and not just thrown on there haphazardly. The pepperoni curls up into little grease-filled cups of joy, and the sausage has a delightful spicy kick. And the cheese, oh the cheese! It's melty, bubbly, and stretchy in all the right ways. I'm pretty sure a single slice could solve all of life's problems, or at least distract you from them for a solid ten minutes.

But it's not just about the pizza. The service was top-notch. Our server was a rockstar – friendly, attentive, and didn't even bat an eye when we debated the merits of pineapple on pizza for an embarrassingly long time. (Spoiler: We didn't get it, but the debate was epic.)

In a sea of generic pizza chains, Hawthorne's stands out like a beacon of cheesy, carby hope. It's the kind of place you'll want to bring your friends, your family, or just your very hungry self. So go forth, my friends, and get a slice of awesome. You deserve it.
